The Oscars this year gave us a plethora of glamorous dresses. The themes were Swarovski crystals, nude tones, purple shades and cap sleeves.
I made a point of watching the live coverage of the celebrities on the red carpet. Looking at a photo is all well and good, but it doesn't show you how a dress moves, how its wearer looks when they walk and stand in it, nor does it reveal which details are lost in the absence of bright bulbs and high definition lenses.
A lot of people were in awe of Mila Kunis in her lavender lace Ellie Saab gown and I agree that in the photos she looks elegant and ethereal. However, this was Not something that translated on the screen. As I watched her walk the red carpet she looked pale and underwhelming, the beautiful detail of the lace was lost to the eye and the shape of the dress did not much flatter her slender frame. Watch the way she looks and carries herself in the video, compared to the photo still- less impressive, non?
But perhaps I am being a harsh critic. However, I do think there were ladies who outshone Mila in the style stakes at the academy awards.
