My mother and I were invited to the opening of the Hermes Leather Forever Exhibition at 6 Burlington Gardens, the sister property to the Royal Academy of Arts. The exhibition celebrates 175 years of exquisite leatherwear since the French aristocracy first started cracking their Thierry Hermès whips in the mid 1800s. Once the guests were assembled Thierry Outin, the managing director of Hermes UK and Ireland spoke about the brand's development and paid tribute to the perfect craftsmanship that goes into making every article produced by the house. This was followed by a veritable feast of oysters, seared wagyu and champagne, before a satisfied walk through the exhibition. One of the highlights was watching two craftsman produce a Birkin bag, with the painstaking work testament to the lengthy wait to acquire one. The exhibition runs till the end of the month, so if you love fashion or inversely have ever wondered what all the fuss is about, go along and take a look.
Exhibition runs 8 May- 27 May. Entry Free. 6 Burlington Gardens
